Predicting Harmful Algae in Ohio Waterways
Researchers led by Mazeika Sullivan at Ohio State University seek to classify Ohio River and inland water bodies by algal risk to forecast blooms. They will collect water samples, study land use, and develop a long range system guiding treatment and monitoring. The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission and UC researchers will install sensors to detect algae and alert utilities. The project aims to prevent crises and guide water managers statewide.
