Petition drive falls short in Lorain County tax bid
Opponents failed to collect enough valid signatures to block a 0.25 percent sales tax increase set to take effect in April, raising Lorain County’s rate from 6.5 to 6.75 percent and generating about 10 million dollars yearly. Citizens for a Better Lorain County Government urged volunteers, blaming holiday deadlines and a county auditor confusion for the shortfall.

Three arrested after car theft chase from Amherst to Elyria
Police say a 2009 Kia Optima stolen in Cleveland led to a pursuit from Amherst Route 58 to Route 2 East and a crash in Elyria Township. Dae Shawn Simmons 19 Jerome Deshawn Thomas 18 and a 17 year old from Cleveland face charges of receiving stolen property and obstructing official business with the juvenile also charged with unruly child.

Brother booked after stabbing splits Elyria family
Tyree Brown 23 was stabbed during a confrontation with his brother William Brown-Nettles 25 on Fox Hill Lane. Tyree was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and listed in fair condition. Brown-Nettles was charged with domestic violence and felonious assault. Police blocked 124 Fox Hill Lane during the investigation.

Cascade Park project to start at Cascade Park
Lorain County Metro Parks announced 2017 2018 work at Cascade Park with demolition of old structures. Access to central park areas will be closed including the Nature Center and sledding hill. New facilities at 19 Acres expected spring 2017 with limited operations at Elywood Park. Rotary Club funds a 2018 all inclusive rock and water play area replacing the current one.
