In Lorain the city faces givebacks surpassing 43000 dollars linked to a Ritenauer related matter. The report notes a party did not respond to requests and another opted out of a related process, leaving unresolved obligations.
The Chronicle reports Lorain officials saved about 43000 in 2016 through voluntary give backs. Councilman Angel Arroyo opted out of health insurance and returned 493 of his 12332.88 salary while Mayor Chase Ritenauer donated none of his 118000-plus salary. Treasurer Terri Soto returned 7767, and Councilwoman Mary Springowski gave back 2466 as the city faced a 3.6 million budget gap with 22 Fire Department layoffs.
The cockpit voice recorder recovered from Lake Erie captured the moments before the crash that killed six people. The National Transportation Safety Board said the device contained sounds from the entire flight and will undergo detailed analysis led by spokesman Eric Weiss.
In North Ridgeville a gunpoint abduction in a driveway led to four arrests including Aaron Walton Smith 26 of Avon Lake charged with aggravated robbery abduction aggravated menacing weapons under disability receiving stolen property and marijuana possession. Brandon Sharp 27 of Lorain charged with drug trafficking and possession. Jordan Sharp 24 of North Ridgeville arrested on Elyria warrant.
The Ohio Attorney General filed suit against Quasar Energy Group over odors from its Three Creek BioEnergy facility and other plants in Wooster Cleveland and Sheffield. The case is stayed as sides seek a settlement to curb the foul smell described as raw sewage and a nuisance to residents. North Ridgeville Mayor Dave Gillock said Quasar is working to address the issue.
A 73 year old man Gary Lander was struck while crossing Griswold Road near 41812 on a wet dark Tuesday evening. He was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where he remained in critical condition as of Wednesday night. The 49 year old driver was traveling east with conditions noted as wet and dark and alcohol and speed were not factors. The Lorain County Sheriff's Office continues the investigation and will release the driver’s name after completion.
