Wellington Township Trustee opposes annexing land for park
Wellington Township Trustee Virginia Haynes argues against annexing about 526 acres to the village of Wellington for a new Metro Park, saying annexation would erode township land. Metro Parks Director Dan Martin counters that annexation would enable better facilities and sewer and police support, though not strictly required for park creation. Haynes proposes intergovernmental sewer deals while Huntington Township officials note the park can be built regardless, and a self-contained wastewater plant could raise costs. The project, with a $1 million estimate and a 2006 opening plan, involves about 220 sites owned by Metro Parks and village leasing of land near an old reservoir.
