Mandel conviction overturned on appeal in Maryland case
A 4th U S Circuit Court of Appeals overturned mail fraud and racketeering convictions of former Maryland Governor Marvin Mandel and five associates. The court ruled the trial allowed too much hearsay, ordering a new trial for all six. Mandel said he plans no immediate return to politics, and he surrendered his post upon suspension amid a stroke prior to trial.
