State to present new Rt 254 consent ordinance to council
The Amherst city council will hear a proposed state and county consent ordinance for Route 254 through the city from Route 37 to Route 53 at Monday's session. Council President Robert Penman said action is not expected Monday and the streets committee will reexamine the proposal, with a Feb 28 regular session as the next meeting. The plan follows Amherst’s earlier rejection of a Middle Route consent, raising questions about state rights to construction up to 1.5 miles from the city limits. Additional items on the agenda include nonprofit solicitation limits, a humane officer in the police department, cemetery maintenance department review, elected official salaries for 1964, and city building code and dump fee revisions.
