Elyria High School myth debunked in Lautenschleger thesis

Earl Lautenschleger, now a science teacher at Elyma High School, proved Elyna was not the first western public high school. His 1936 master’s thesis shows Akron beat Elyma to public secondary education by three years with the Akron law of 1847, and Elyma opened in 1850. The study traces Elyna’s early schools from 1831 as The High School of Elyna, a private institution, not an academy.
