Three Die In Detroit Area Cargo Plane Crash
A United Airlines DC-8 cargo plane carrying five pounds of Americium 241 exploded after takeoff from Detroit Metropolitan Airport, killing all three crew members. Officials say the radioactive material posed no danger though recovery of the container was unclear. The crash occurred in a swampy area near the airport with limited access due to mud.
