Loyalty oath on federal job forms still in use
The Civil Service Commission says the loyalty oath on federal job applications has had no legal effect for months and applicants are not required to sign it. A US District Court voided the oath last June 4 and the Justice Department declined to appeal. Thousands still sign the oath, while membership in subversive groups remains grounds for denial. The form stays active pending a ruling on another section, with revisions planned once settled.
