Taft signs bill easing Ohio school funding burdens
Gov. Taft signed a reform bill reducing district maintenance and textbook reserves and easing state intervention rules as lawmakers prepare sweeping funding proposals. He will unveil a comprehensive plan in the Jan. 24 State of the State while House and Senate leaders set their own versions to address the DeRolph ruling. The measure raises per student state aid by 272 dollars to 4566 in FY 2002 and signals ongoing debate over local property tax reliance.
