Boy survives sub zero bridge ordeal in Elyria rescue
A 14 year old deaf mute, Mark Miles, spent about an hour on the understructure of a Penn Central bridge over the Black River in Elyria in 4 below weather. A passing girl called for help and firemen using a rope lowered to haul him up. He was warmed at a store and returned home in a police car, uninjured.

Lorain County officials condemned the State Highway Department’s bond funded plan as they learned Elyria’s proposed Lorain Boulevard extension from Lodi Street to West Avenue was not approved.
