Religion in Wartime Reflections At Oberlin
Reverend Leonard Sudley of Oberlin Theological Seminary spoke to about 1400 Oberlin College students in Finney Chapel on the year ahead. He argued religion will be judged by actions toward wartime participation and noted three US church positions on war: no reconciliation with God’s will, accepting war as a bad necessity, and serving in war as compatible with God’s will. He warned organized religion has largely avoided declaring God’s will in the global conflict.
