Avon Lake library story sessions and Moms Time Off
Avon Lake Library hosts a three week Friday night storytelling series from 6 30 to 3 30 pm on Jan 12 19 and 26 with pro storytellers and a pre story dinner. Participation is free though diners are asked to contribute. MOM S TIME OFF offers a weekly babysitting program for 1 1 2 to 3 1 2 year olds Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 30 to noon starting Jan 10 11 at 20 for a four week mini session.

Navy Man Honored For Iowa Turret Rescue
Marine Capt. John A. Brush, 27, received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for aiding firefighting and rescue efforts after the USS Iowa explosion on April 19 in which 47 sailors died. Aboard Norfolk ceremony, Brush recalled opening a hatch and helping evacuate a burning turret. Columbus native John L. Goins also died. Brush plans to attend amphibious warfare school in August after remaining with the Iowa until then.

Lorain opens first AIDS testing facility on Pearl Avenue
Lorain County opens its first AIDS testing site at 2835 Pearl Avenue in Lorain city, with anonymous free tests offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings in January. The clinic, run by the city health department, also treats venereal diseases and HIV. hours may expand next month. Brookpark blaze damages Sunoco gas station
The Laurence's Brothers Sunoco station at 5710 W 130th St suffered an estimated 400000 dollars in damage after a fire Sunday afternoon. A mechanic was reportedly changing a gas tank when the blaze started. crews arrived around 1 30 and fought the fire for nearly five hours as the roof collapsed complicating extinguishment. No injuries were reported.
