Lorain family saved by 11 year old in pre-dawn fire
Eleven year old Shane Henderson woke his family during a pre dawn fire at their Lorain duplex. The Lorain County Red Cross provided hotel shelter and other aid through volunteers and staff. A Red Cross fundraiser Chocolate Festival is slated for March 12 at Lorain County Community College with advance tickets at $20 and $25 at the door.

Kitchen fire damages Amherst home on Crosse Road
A pan left cooking on a stove started a fire at a home on Crosse Road in Amherst. Firefighters from Amherst and South Amherst arrived about 1:15 pm and knocked the blaze down by 1:35 pm. The kitchen and dining area suffered substantial fire and water damage, with heavy smoke in the rest of the house. Water lines were damaged and traffic on Crosse was reduced during firefighting.
