Flu like illness linked to herpes type Epstein Barr virus
A pair of reports in the Annals of Internal Medicine say fatigue fever and swollen glands may stem from Epstein Barr virus, a herpes family member also linked to mononucleosis. About 90 percent exposed by age 30, researchers note many patients had normal routine tests yet severe illness impaired work or school. They caution that causality is not yet proven and the scope remains unknown.
