Perry High School principal hailed for protecting students during shooting
Perry Iowa principal Dan Marburger and staff were wounded on Thursday as a teenage gunman killed a sixth grade student and died by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. The shooter Dylan Butler had a pump action shotgun and a handgun. Police said Marburger acted selflessly to shield students while the district canceled classes for counseling and community members gathered at a vigil. The town of about 8,000 residents hosts Perry High School and the Perry Community School District.
