Lorain council tweaks CRA abatements and transfer ban
Lorain City Council approved changes to CRA parameters and sent the measure to a third reading. Areas 1 2 and 5 keep 15 year 100 percent real estate tax abatements while Areas 3 and 4 offer 10 year 50 percent abatements. A motion to make abatements non transferable was approved to level the playing field when only one of two adjacent homes qualifies. Community debate referenced neighboring towns with growth and calls for expanding abatements in CRA 3 and 4 drew opposition.
