ABC shakes up ratings by bringing Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer as anchors for Good Morning America. The move signals a major network effort to revitalize morning television and attract broader viewership.
Lorain Admiral King High School sophomore Tony Ridenour reinjured an ankle on ice after working out, ending in the emergency room. The arctic chill kept many students home while emergency rooms, including Community Health Partners and EMH Regional Medical Center, reported surges from slips and falls.
Controversy over the King's Woods site escalated as Mayor Joseph Koziura and Law Director Michael Scherach clash over a proposed city buyout to block a developer. Scherach says the city can purchase, Koziura cites lack of cash and prioritizes streets and parks. He notes a 1946 easement would require road construction if developed.
Lorain County Coroner Dr. Paul Matus, a Republican, may serve as acting commissioner if two county commissioners are absent. A new state law signed by the governor allows this temporary move, a historic break in a long GOP vacancy streak since 1958. Matus says he would not eagerly seek the post but understands legislators’ need when two commissioners are indisposed.
Three of ten animals died after two months of neglect on a Huntington Township farm. The Animal Protective League of Lorain County plans to charge the owner in Oberlin Municipal Court this week. APL rescued two cocker spaniels and three hounds, saved two emaciated cows to a Columbia Station barn, and cares for seven animals awaiting new homes.
