Radio City Music Hall Faces Possible Reuse

The Music Hall opened December 17 1982 and drew visitors nationwide for Rockettes shows stage productions and family films. Attendance declined since 1972 and in 1975 Radio City posted a loss of 1.3 million dollars. Reports say the 6000 seat center may be converted to a tennis court or shopping center.

Carter in Normandy pledges free Europe during visit

President Carter makes a ceremonial pilgrimage to Omaha Beach and Bayeux, pledging that Europe will remain free as 200,000 U.S. servicemen stand ready. He honors fallen troops among 9,386 U.S. crosses at the cemetery overlook and receives enthusiastic welcomes from locals in France.

Ohio lawmakers begin separate study on school funding

In Columbus, the Ohio House and Senate launched independent reviews of school funding. House Speaker Vernal G. Riffe Jr. directs committees to hold hearings on education, appropriations, and taxation while Senate President Pro Tem Oliver Ocasek leads a dedicated Education Committee inquiry. No timetable set, but aims for some answers by November.

NOACA forms task force to monitor nuclear waste in Ohio salt beds

A Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency task force plans to oppose a federal plan to store nuclear wastes in salt beds under northern Ohio. Elbert cleared of charges in truck dispute

Elyria Municipal Court dismissed the case against Lorne J. Elbert Jr after Judge James P. Horn could not determine if an offense had been committed. A trailer with about 700 insulation bags, reported stolen in North Ridgeville, was found on Elbert’s leased property. The complaint cited Spray Foam Insulation owner Phillip Pavarini, whose title to the trailer was not properly transferred. The matter was left unresolved and the case dismissed.

Lorain men accused in international cocaine smuggling

Two Lorain men David Hare and Kenneth Novak were arrested in Columbus on two counts each of aggravated trafficking in cocaine. Federal DEA agents seized about 17 ounces valued at $200,000 as officials say Hare ran residences in Peru and elsewhere. The Franklin County grand jury may indict within days after four weeks of undercover work.

McKiel Denied Shock Probation Amid Appeal Efforts
