Fidler in Hollywood and Other Showbiz Oddities
A wild collage of Hollywood rumors and plans: Lew Ayres may return to MGM as a director, while Hal Clark’s Christmas gift to his 86 year old father is swapped for something fancier. Dusty Anderson and Jean Negulescu prep an alternate date, Leslie Howard’s wartime death is noted, and Wallace Beery’s comeback is teased. Kathy Wenn signs for a New York biopic, Bing Crosby’s unreleased record is highlighted, and Douglas McKean leads a road company. A look at previews, monograms, and a praise-filled chat from Major Fred White about Mickey Rooney’s postwar growth and Lloyd Nolan’s upcoming A pictures.
