An Elyria man Clifton K. Stiles 28 surrendered at the police station and pleaded innocent in Elyria Municipal Court to a rape charge connected with an assault of a minor. A preliminary hearing was set for Jan 23 at 2:30 p.m. with bail set at 10 000 dollars.
The Lorain Civil Service Commission moves to place two emergency manpower act patrolmen, Charles Schuster sworn December 7 1971 and Nicholas Dudukovich sworn September 10 1971, at the top of the new police eligibility list for possible permanent posts. The commission seeks confirmation from Police Chief Malinovsky that they passed probation before final placement. The panel also weighs whether to amend or drop current height requirements and elected Blagos E Nicel off as president for the year with Nicolott as vice president and Felix Michalski as secretary. The next noon meeting is set for January 17 to accommodate Michalski's schedule.
A public hearing on a 152 acre Center Ridge Road rezoning for a 15 million shopping center was canceled due to failure to notify residents within 500 feet by letter. The hearing is rescheduled for January 17 at 30 p.m. with a special council meeting afterward for the final reading. About 30 residents attended but none spoke.
