Antarctic ice sheet melt may raise seas 16 feet over millennia
Researchers report the West Antarctic Ice Sheet began retreating about 10,000 years ago, melting at roughly two inches per year. If melting continues for 7,000 years, global sea level could rise as much as 16 feet, threatening islands and coastlines. The study, led by John QO Stone, notes a natural cycle with potential for rapid short events but cannot confirm human warming as a cause.
