Complex Formula Proposed for Prisoner Release at Panmunjom

The United Nations accepted a six point compromise on prisoner release in Korea, agreeing to free all war prisoners and internees on both sides. It would swap remaining Communist prisoners for interned civilians after initial man-for-man exchanges, with South Korean troops captured and pressed into Red Army service to be released. The Communists reacted unfavorably and said they would study the plan overnight, with further talks set for Thursday morning. The subcommittee on truces made little progress, remaining deadlocked over the Communists right to repair North Korean airports during a ceasefire.
