New Bauer Dairy Plant To Be Built In Elyria

A new Bauer Dairy plant at 340 Fifteenth Street in Elyria will cost about 100000 and be built on a 340 by 117 foot lot with entrances from Fifteenth and Sixteenth streets. Ralph J. Bauer announced construction begins when weather permits and should finish within three months after foundation work starts. The facility will house separate processing and bottling rooms with stainless steel equipment and brick exterior.

Woman charged in Elyria shooting of soldier Lowry

Miss Minda Jackson, 20, arraigned in Elyria Mayor's Court on a shooting with intent to kill charge after Lowry, 32, a soldier, was shot in the abdomen Friday night. Bond set at 35000. case bound over to Lorain County Grand Jury. Jackson waived preliminary hearing.

Collecting Of Yule Trees To Start Thursday

Elyria prepares for a citywide burning of Yule trees as families strip decorations tonight and tomorrow. The Twelfth Night event, January 7, will ignite the mass of Christmas mementoes at the Garden street landfill. The Elyria Junior Chamber of Commerce plans the third annual celebration.

Fear Cold Snow Threaten Holiday Toll Rising Traffic Deaths

An eastbound mass of cold and snowy weather raised fears of more traffic fatalities during the New Year holiday. Already 116 died in traffic accidents since Friday 6 p.m. and 21 in fires, 36 in other accidents, with 76 missing aboard four planes. Weather hampered searchers as snow and cold spread from Canada into Montana, the Dakotas, Wyoming and Nebraska, moving east to affect the Midwest and East as travelers return home.

Man Thrown From Car Injures Head In Route 254 Crash

Pat Mevaniel, 27, Lorain Ohio, treated for head injuries and bruises after being ejected from his car in a collision with Julia Serroza on Route 254 near Balti tracks. City to begin January garbage and rubbish collection

Safety Service Director D. W. Kathe announced city wide free collection for January to clean up post terminal service backlog. Four trucks, a bulldozer, and extra city units will operate. Residents must separate waste and prove need for exemptions. private haulers must obtain new permits as old ones are voided.

Twice Wounded Elyria Soldier Home From Korea

Corporal Daniel Leininger Jr arrives home in Elyria Ohio after a 40 day furlough from Korea marked by two wounds. He receives the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster, the United Nations Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, three Battle Stars, and returns via Seattle then Battle Creek for orders.

Elyria Council Transfers $100000 To Water Plant Capital Fund

The Elyria city council approved a $100,000 year end transfer from the waterworks fund to the capital outlay fund to modernize and electrify the water plant without bonds. Auditor Ellsworth Albert explained the plan aims for long term upgrades and new pumps while considering a new north side storage tank. Additional transfers of $25,000 from the general fund contingent account and $10,000 to a recreation fund were approved to support street widening and recreation field improvements.

Oberlin Soldier Killed In Action

Private Willard B Holmes son of Willard Holmes and Mrs William Young is reported killed in action on December 7 in Korea. He sailed from Tokyo where hospitalized recently and had prior Merchant Marine service in World War II. He attended Oberlin High School and enlisted in September. Family includes mother Pamela, father, sister Dor and sister Dor J Holmes.

A 27-year-old soldier from Woodbury ND named Ted Wong died when the car he rode in crashed near AnFe. The incident was reported today and details indicate a tragic highway crash involving the service member.

Black River Floods Rise Eleven Feet At Cascade Park

Black River waters were eleven feet above normal in Cascade Park this morning and rising. John Machock Elyria park superintendent reported ice backing into the cascade basin worsening the flood. The river, swollen by melting snow, now covers roadways and may cause flood damage. A New Year’s Eve party advertised for Monge Chub includes music by the Harmoneers and dancing for members and ladies.
