Elyria Court to add full time traffic magistrate position
Elyria Municipal Court will add a second full time traffic magistrate to handle rising ticket volume driven by the police department traffic unit. In 2023 the court processed over 14,000 tickets across Elyria and nearby townships, with 5,373 tickets in 2023. The new post will be funded by the city at a salary of 109000 dollars, matching the county average to attract qualified applicants. The court previously used a part time magistrate who left for Avon Lake, and officials say full time improves filling the role.
