Ex-patrolman and governor office in probe clash
A former highway patrol official says Gov. Ted Strickland's top legal advisers tried to interfere with a labor practices probe into Anchor Cos. The inquiry, started over a year ago, remains open while the Strickland administration denies any meddling. The case centers on alleged falsified records and unpaid prevailing wages for work on a state prisons building lease. Former Lt. Col. William Costas says aides questioned patrol authority. Sept. 10, 2008, meeting included Kent Markus and Jose Torres.

Ohio records surge in concealed handgun licenses in 2009
The Associated Press reports Ohio issued 56,691 concealed handgun licenses in 2009, topping the 45,497 record set in 2004. Attorney General Richard Cordray attributes the rise to more residents exercising their right to carry. Buckeye Firearms Association and Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence offer competing explanations for the trend.
