SEC official resigns amid wife beating allegations
The SEC enforcement chief John Fedders resigned amid allegations of periodic domestic violence during 18 years of marriage. The White House said Reagan planned no immediate action. Fedders admitted seven violent incidents in divorce testimony but his lawyer said he contests being a wife beater. He called the episodes regrettable and said the publicity harms the commission. The resignation was accepted by SEC Chairman John Shad with regret. Anson Franklin of the White House noted no immediate comment.
