Theft of $76,000 in rings at JB Robinson Co Jewelers
In Midway Mall two men stole a tray of 14 carat gold rings valued at $76,000 from JB Robinson Co Jewelers after a display case was left open. The store reported the wholesale value at $18,000. Store manager Jack Stauss was unavailable for comment. a clerk said she did not work Monday and knew nothing of the theft. A prior similar heist at the same store occurred nearly four years ago with 48 rings taken in an unrelated scheme. no arrests were reported.

Landslide wrecks Cascade path near Black River
A rock slide destroyed 156 feet of parkway and a retaining fence along the East Branch of the Black River, 500 yards north of the falls under Washington Avenue bridge. The sandstone bank dropped about 100 feet into the river, narrowing the channel to a 20 foot spillway. City engineers will study removal and a safety fence will enclose 500 feet of defective area.
