The Lorain County Cage Classic set for March 26 at Midview High features top senior players from Lorain County in Class AAA and AA A East and West squads. Co sponsored by The Chronicle Telegram and Lorain County Basketball Coaches Association, with games starting 6:30 pm and 8:15 pm, ticket prices 2 in advance 3 at the door. Proceeds go to Green Acres Children's Home Oberlin. Coaches Walsh Eckenwiler Kirsch Hand Winarski Gladden etc head the rosters for the East West teams and class AAA Americans and Nationals showcase top local talent including LeBron Gladden Derrick Thomas Lee Wilson Darrell Wilson Tyrone Jeter and Dave Cannon.

Lorain's Eddie Wright, a 6-6 guard from Lorain High and Alvin Junior College alum, is slated to sign with Michigan State University. He drew early interest from Jud Heathcote after a 38 and 42 point two game stretch in 1984 and averaged strong scoring, assists, and rebounding while earning first team all Buckeye Conference honors.

Cannon nets junior college mat crown
Darren Cannon of Lakeland Community College won the NCAA Junior College 150 pound championship at Glenn Ellyn Illinois with a 11-4 decision in the final. He defeated defending champ Mike Barna 9-4, then pinned Tim Bladder in the semifinals. Cannon, Elyria High 1983 graduate and former state champ at 145 pounds, also held Buckeye Conference, sectional and district titles.
