McMaster selection signals steadier U S foreign policy
The appointment of Lt Gen H R McMaster as national security adviser offers a strategic shift from Flynn. McMaster’s cautious, wide listening approach contrasts with prior volatility and aims to craft a coherent policy amid White House disarray. His record of challenging flawed strategies and deep Iraq and Afghanistan experience supports a steadier security process. He enjoys bipartisan backing and could align NSC work with NATO and allies while limiting political meddling.
