Vermilion woman, 79, dies after car strikes her
Mrs Katherine Berk of 832 State St Vermilion died from multiple injuries after being struck by an eastbound car on Liberty Avenue at Main Street Saturday night. The driver was Jesse Gonzales, 61, of 159 Harbourtown Mobile Home Community. The accident occurred at 7 41 p m and she died around 11 p m at Lorain Community Hospital. She is survived by her husband Harley H daughter Marilyn Wasem and two grandchildren. Services Wednesday at 2 p m at Fisher Riddle Funeral Home with burial at Brownhelm Cemetery. Memorials to the E Church Memorial Fund.

Columbia schools suspend pay cuts resolution approved
The Columbia School District board on Sunday night approved a resolution suspending the 9 percent salary cuts from Feb 22 through March 4 to aid negotiations with CLEA over the district’s financial crisis. The plan would reinstate cuts on March 4 unless a negotiated agreement is reached. CLEA must dismiss lawsuits as a condition. CLEA leaders dispute knowledge of any such agreement. OAPSE non certified staff are affected but have no voice in CLEA’s decision. The district relies on a March 23 emergency levy and a November state loan to operate in 1981.
