Farmers Push High Tariffs to Shield Agriculture

WASHINGTON, Feb 22. The need for strong tariff protection on farm crops grows as farm leaders push to make high tariffs a permanent pillar of agricultural policy. Hoover’s stance favors agriculture, though an Argentina visit sparked rumors he advised hog production for U.S. meat demand. Farm groups warn the fight will continue in Congress as bankers and industry interests shape tariff politics.
