British troops and Indian contingents reinforced Shanghai's international settlement amid a massive strike. Decapitated labor agitator heads displayed to deter protesters while up to 1,060 British defense troops stood ready. Reports say about 100,000 Chinese workers walked out with 20 decapitations confirmed and many more feared.
Washington dispatch states Consul General Lockhart reports a Chinese raid on the refugee vessel Iping at Ichang on the Yangtze river. The raid involved active participants in a broader strike and anti British boycott, who stripped the ship of food while it carried British passengers. Other department advices say no anti foreign tendencies have emerged in the Shanghai general strike.
Italian fascist flier Francesco de Pinedo abandoned attempts to depart from Porto Praia on a planned non stop Atlantic crossing after night long engine troubles. The Ottawa bound trip faced similar failures at Baloma Portuguese West Africa. In Columbus Ohio, two Fremont youths, Russell Cholder and Raymond Casa, both 17, were held by juvenile authorities after admitting to running away from home.

Columbus, Feb 21 The tail of a nation wide blizzard left Ohio buried under snow and ice with drifts up to six feet in places. Temperatures hovered around 23 to 26 above zero as snow and ice disrupted roads and transit. The Weather Bureau forecast rain to relieve the grip of winter and aid travel. Snow plows cleared trolley lines and streets as cities reported heavy accumulations and bus delays.
Kansas City report states two children died in a bed fire caused by an overheated electric iron left in the bed by their mother, Mrs. Glenn M. Cavender. Mary Katherine, four months, and Joseph, eight months, were found burnt in the bed after the mother briefly left to visit a neighbor.
Berlin Feb 21 Germany and the United States were connected by telephone in history making fashion. An experimental call was completed from Frankfurt to New York via London marking a first in international telephony.
The State Supreme Court denied Juvenile Judge Ben B Lindsey a re hearing of his bid to keep the juvenile judgeship in Denver Colorado The high court had ruled there was fraud in Lindsey s 1923 re election and ordered his ouster
Parma officers and Cleveland detectives doubt a recent arrest will solve the killings of two schoolteachers six years ago. Marshal Tesar is on a blind trail, while Inspector Cody and Capt. Potts dismiss the breakthrough as negligible. Mayor Stanfield accuses Tesar of grandstanding amid a council vote on an eastern measure.
Secretary Mellon E L Doheny and Harry F Sinclair oil magnates own 82 percent of the oil lands in dispute with Mexico and are warned not to comply with Mexican oil laws. Walter Liggett Plymouth Mass reporters testified before a Senate subcommittee alleging the crisis stems from American efforts to force validation of fraudulently acquired concessions.

Washington Feb 210- House Republicans will caucus tonight to pick a speaker and floor leader for the next Congress amid disputes. Expected names include Speaker Longworth and possible succession as presiding officer. A grievance session may air against Longworth and committee leaders over power in shaping the house program.
Washington February 21 Secretary of State Kellogg over seventy years old was confined to his home today with a severe cold He had not been well for weeks but continued to work because of the serious Nicaraguan and Chinese situations.
Rome Feb 21 Mussolini declares naval defense a life or death issue for Italy. Italy declines President Coolidge's invitation for a conference to discuss further naval arms reductions. The reply was delivered to Ambassador Plocher and stresses geography in the Mediterranean supports Italy’s stance.
Frank Scott of Lorain was arraigned before Justice George and fined $200 and costs on a liquor possession charge brought by prohibition inspector O E Rankin. The court was crowded for the ongoing trial of Lawrence Splark on a liquor selling charge. verdict not yet reached when the paper went to press.

Columbus, Feb 21. Legislative leaders prepared for tonight's session as senators and representatives of the 11th general assembly arrived with satchels full of new measures. After tonight no new bill can be introduced without a three-fifths vote. The two houses are expected to flood the session with new legislation as 116 bills stood before them two years ago. One person was killed by a street car and others died from exposure as the storm swept through the district Friday afternoon. Intermittent snow flurries continued today with snow depths reported between 14 and 26 inches and deep drifts in many areas.
