Lorain budget cuts spark fear of fire layoffs
Lorain city officials struggle to balance a tight budget amid planned cuts to the Fire Department and health services. Fire Chief Tom Brown cites about 80 firefighters at risk while unions seek to protect jobs as non essential spend is trimmed. Health department faces drastic subsidies reductions with 20 employees potentially laid off. City leaders explore diverting funds and watching income tax revenue, which could lose 35 to 40 jobs if a renewal fails.
