Thirteen Seamen Stay Aboard Fort Mercer Stern

Thirteen seamen cling to the bucking stern of the Fort Mercer off Cape Cod as salvage efforts continue. They join 21 other shipmates rescued by Coast Guard cutters Eastwind and Acushnet, while the Pendleton’s stern is towed or salvaged. The men, led by chief engineer Jesse T. Engineers proposed to study off street parking locations

Meeting proposed to coordinate relief agencies

United Press reports fierce snowstorms paralyzed New England and the northern Midwest with at least 50 deaths. Coast Guard cutters rescued 21 from tanker Fort Mercer, 14 sailors remained aboard, while 32 were saved from Pendicton. 1500 locals stranded on Maine roads as 31 inches of snow halted power and transport.

13 Day Old Baby Drinks Deodorant

A 13 day old infant was given liquid deodorant by a three year old brother. The baby was rushed to Elyria Memorial hospital at 11 35 this morning with burns on the tongue and throat but released after treatment. Progress Toward Settlement at Pfaudler Work Stoppage

Negotiations toward a settlement of the two week old Pfaudler plant work stoppage resumed with a four hour session from 7 pm to 11 pm and a morning meeting at 8 15 am. Jointly announced progress shows non wage issues largely settled while monetary terms remain the main hurdle. The walkout began Tuesday February 4 and entered its third week yesterday.

Communists reject UN armistice troop plan in Korea talks

The Communist side rejected a UN offer to cut monthly troop rotation from 40 000 to 35 000 men while pressing to have Russia named to a neutral supervising commission. The Allies oppose Russia as a sponsor of China and North Korea. A third staff meeting was not yet scheduled to finalize armistice details and a 96 day window for a peace conference was agreed.

Boy Hit By Car Still Is Fair

Edward Morse age four of 38 Clark Street is in fair condition at Elyria Memorial hospital after a Monday afternoon collision with Sidney KK Sheldon of 127 South Logan Street. He was believed thrown about 30 feet with only a forehead abrasion observed. Sheldon faces Elyria Mayor's Court on February 25 after posting bond for failure to have his car under control.
