Petition seeks postponement of Oberlin retirement center plans
A petition signed by 160 Oberlin residents was presented to the city council urging the Firelands Retirement Center project, a $400000 elderly home, be postponed. The group’s spokesman, Warren Taylor of Oberlin College, argued the site near South Professor Street is unsuitable and not in keeping with surrounding architecture. The hearing featured Whiteside’s challenge to zoning variances and calls to repeal them, while Nord noted the issue falls under zoning and planning decisions. The council tabled Whiteside’s appeal to next meeting to allow an amended or withdrawn application.
