Fire and fuel tank explosions leveled the Beauport Insane Asylum in Quebec as 1,797 patients were fed or moved to safety in 15 below zero conditions. Nuns, firemen, and troops evacuated 1,300 inmates as tanks exploded, water supply failed, and the fire raged through the east wing and central building. One patient died, two firemen were injured, and a fireman was missing. The Roman Catholic Grey Nuns operated the facility housing 950 women, 847 men, 292 nuns, and 250 staff.

Suit to regain state job after dismissal
Columbus February 17 Robert M. Greenlun of Ashland filed a common pleas suit to reclaim his $130 a month post as supervisor of route marking in the State Highway department. He says he was dismissed January 5 by former Highway Director Ivan R. Ault after testifying against Ault at a trial over soliciting campaign funds for civil service workers. Water Works Engineer Wright Dies at 33 in Elyria
Warren E. Wright longtime stationary engineer at the Lake Erie pumping station died from a heart blood clot just before leaving Elyria Memorial Hospital after a hernia operation. He would have turned 34 on March 3 and is survived by widow Florence E. Dunham, two children Alberta and George, a brother Clare of Lorain, and other relatives. He was born in Harbor Beach Michigan and came to Elyria 30 years ago. Wright was a member of King Solomon Masonic Lodge and the International Order of Odd Fellows. Services will be held after removal to his Wright home with calling hours scheduled.
