Lebanese take over Awali River crossing in south Lebanon

Israeli soldiers withdrew from the Awali River crossing near Sidon ending a two year stay. Lebanese army units moved in to control the bridge as Israeli jets conducted three reconnaissance passes. Moshe Levy visited to supervise the pullback and pledged coordination with Lebanon's forces.

Ex-ODOT Aide Found Guilty In Donation Case

A Norwalk Municipal Court jury found Matthew Cunningham 46 of Brunswick guilty of coercing a contractor into a political donation. Judge Derby fined him 500 dollars with costs and issued a suspended 10 day jail term. Prosecutors sought 750 dollars and 90 days.

End of the 20¢ stamp era and 22¢ replacement begins

The 20-cent stamp retires after a three year run as a new 22-cent stamp D replaces it for first class letters up to an ounce. Until the first true 22-cent stamp is common, senders may use 20s with a 2-cent Igor Stravinsky portrait.

One-Third of Unmarried Women in 20s Pregnant

New York AP reports a Family Planning Perspectives study found about one third of never married women aged 20 to 29 have been pregnant and 19 percent have given birth. The 1983 survey of 1,314 U.S. women notes 82 percent had sex, with contraception widely used but often begun after first intercourse.

Levin in good health amid Lebanon captivity return

American journalist Jeremy Levin, 52, who spent 11 months in solitary confinement in Lebanon, is reported in good health by the U.S. Air Force. He remains at Wiesbaden hospital for a routine checkup and no departure time has been set. Levin was Beirut bureau chief for Cable News Network when seized in Beirut last March.

American held journalist Jeremy Levin possibly released

An anonymous caller claiming to represent Islamic Holy War said one of four Americans held has been sentenced to death while claiming Levin was released. An Air Force spokesman tracked Levin’s status at Wiesbaden hospital, noting his departure home is not today and that he will not face the press before returning to the United States.
