Atom Bomb Test Postponed Amid Weather Hazards

The Atomic Energy Commission postponed the first 1955 A bomb test for at least 21 hours due to shifting winds and heavy cloud formations. The delay aimed to prevent radioactive cloud fallout on Pioche Caliente and nearby communities while safety standards guided the decision. About 1,100 personnel were prepared, with troops to be positioned 24 5 miles from ground zero as the planned blast potential ranged from 50 000 to 65 000 tons of TNT.

U S Army Abroad Totals Revealed Defense Discloses Troop Counts

The Defense Department released overseas troop figures totaling 1,370,000 eligible for combat and 1,602,000 potential combat troops stationed in the United States. Paris INS reports veteran Socialist Christian Pineau has a fifty percent chance to form France’s first post liberation cabinet. He will brief President Rene Coty by Wednesday morning after assessing if he can unite divided National Assembly factions. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers announced a demand for a 22 percent raise for all categories of engineers on U.S. railroads. Grand Chief Engineer Guy L.
