Employment Office Sees Busy January Activity At Elyma Office
The Elyma office of the Onto State Employment Service reports January was very active with 2005 reception contacts and 1009 interviews yielding 378 referrals and 231 placements. Thirty eight percent of placements were women, with five counseled applicants placed in jobs. Veterans accounts show 194 active applications and 156 veteran cases resolved, including bonus, LI, and home loan questions. Cooperation with Red Cross and Vocational Rehabilitation noted.

Mechanical newspaper vending touted as replacement by some
A Michigan man secured a patent for a machine that dispenses newspapers using a coin and lever. The initiative ran with aid from the U S Army Recruiting Service to boost handicapped and rehab veterans hiring. The farm placement program moved to the OSS at month’s start, with local farm representatives attending 18 group meetings last month.
