LORAIN O Feb 12 Charge of branding his son with a red hot poker and beating others was placed against John Svetovac 35 by his wife today Svetovac held in the jail and described as on a rampage The 6 children aged 3 to 11 were said to be mistreated daily One boy was branded with a hot poker heated in an open fire
In Rochester on February 12, Darry Gordon a 34 year old butcher killed two competitors and wounded two others amid bitter North Side trade rivalry. Harry Katz and Samuel Tolz were dead. Morris Klace and Jack Cohen injured with Katz shot in his doorway. Gordon was arrested charged with murder.
Sheriff E G Mathews said several youths who broke into Wake Avenue School and caused disturbances were arrested and turned over to Juvenile Court. They allegedly struck an abandoned coupe belonging to Sedhibley Motors of Amherst and were placed on 600 bail. The Ford court stolen from T S Perry of Ashland and recovered Thursday night was returned to Perry this morning.
A cold wave sweeping down from Canada was forecast by the weather bureau. The surge is described as moderately severe and will replace milder temperatures that prevailed in the midwest the past fortnight. North Dakota reports temperatures below zero.
A local weather man forecasts a wet start to the week in Honerath with rain likely around the middle of the week and a cold spell toward the week's end. Temperatures are expected to remain moderate with a cool snap at week’s end.
In Cambridge Massachusetts February 12 forty six Harvard students were arrested after a riot in Harvard square involving about a thousand undergraduates and thirty five Cambridge police. One officer and seven students were hospitalized.

A bill to repeal the Pence law allowing public utilities to collect increased rates under bond will be considered at a joint House and Senate meeting Tuesday afternoon. Elyria city solicitor Myora will appear on behalf of Olio and other municipalities, opposing the rate increase by Losan Gas Company, which is currently collecting under bond pending state public utilities commission rulings.
Vermilion youth Herman Derman was found guilty of manslaughter by the San Jusky Common Pleas Court yesterday afternoon in the death of Miss Cora Gizised. The auto driven by her husband struck her as she stepped onto a streetcar crossing last fall. the court withheld sentence to allow a motion for a new trial.
In Hamilton Bermuda on February 12 crowds jeered Francis Heenan Browning as she arrived to recuperate from an ordeal in a White Plains court. Accompanied by her mother and a newspaper man, they kept rival reporters at bay as Edward West Brownings wife Mother Weenan and Peaches shared a quiet lunch at the Hamilton hotel before Peaches and the reporter danced together.
Detroit police sought James W. Coyner a Black former prison inmate in Crown Point Indiana as the man connected to the discovery of four skulls at his former home near Detroit. A notebook with prominent Detroit and Pittsburgh women’s names surfaced among refuse and hair samples hinted at Caucasian victims. Continued on page.
The city is decorated today to honor the birthday of Abraham Lincoln. The court house, Ely Hall, many businesses, and homes display the national colors. No special services are planned, but the display recalls a man deeply mourned and widely written about.
Edward Herzog of 642 Lake Avenue received a citation from the French government for service with the American forces in the World War. He was wounded multiple times by German fire during nine canyonos actions and narrowly survived. Herzog is an active American Legion member, former commander, and current service officer for the local post.
Charles Hunker of Jefferson Avenue Stop 47 1 2 Lorain was arrested by O E Rankin and arraigned before Drustier George. He pleaded not guilty to possession of Hygner, bond set at £1000 for Monday. Five gallons of liquor found at his house per Rankin. John Merald of Broadway and Ninth streets Lorain also arrested for possession. Meraldi pleads not guilty. Rankin and aides conducted a raid at F236 Broadway. no liquor found but about a dozen men escaped via back window. Ole Ginnini of 1445 Elyria Avenue found with two quarts of liquor. Giannini previously convicted in Municipal Court Lorain three or four fines. on December 13 1926 pleaded guilty before Mayor John KR Tipes and fined $300 for selling. Continued on Page 2.
Fred Bischoff of Lorain was found dead in a ditch near the Jenne farm in Amherst after a weeklong search. His body was recovered from a water-filled ditch along the Wand L. EB railroad tracks. Survived by his widow two daughters and one grandchild all of Lorain, plus four brothers including Gottlob of Lorain and Toutz of Amherst. Funeral arrangements pending.

A partially legible 19th century letter resurface relates Abraham Lincoln’s defense of Armstrong in the Metzger murder trial. It quotes Norris praising Lincoln’s cross examination that discredited Charles Allen’s testimony and aided acquittal. Norris sought a pardon from Governor Yates.
President Coolidge prepares a second disarmament proposal linking a three power treaty with Great Britain and Japan to naval forces. It would limit cruisers destroyers and submarines under a 5-5-3 cap while allowing flexibility if France or others block the current plan. The US notes British reservations and possible naval tonnage revisions.
Paris February 12 France considers President Coolidge’s naval arms extension proposal to cruisers destroyers and submarines. Premier Voineare cabinet members discuss, Briand to draft reply for Tuesday. France may accept some proposals as negotiation basis while maintaining a general disarmament policy. The Geneva conference outlined indivisible disarmament including manpower and industrial capacity in armament status.
Tokyo February 12 The cabinet planned to meet to consider President Coolidge's naval limitation plan as Japanese commentators favor a cruiser rate higher than the capital ship ratio set in Washington. The Diet was to be briefed on the preliminaries as cabinet members prepared for discussion.
