Grand jury probes death of Shirley O Rourke in Ohio home

Mathna vetoes pay hikes and revises city appropriations

Mayor Woodrow Mathna vetoed the city pay raises granted by the February 1 council vote, citing a secret meeting exclusion. He also announced a revision of the 1971 appropriations to cut costs, saying reductions are likely and no extra expenditures are warranted. The rejected raises ranged from 4.4 percent for the municipal judge to 50 percent for councilmen, saving about 27,500 dollars yearly if adopted.

Vermilion woman dies in Lorain highway crash en route to hospital

Mrs. Judith Litten, 23, of 221 Elberta Rd Vermilion was killed when her car collided with a second car driven by Elaine Brady 38 of Orchard Beach Vermilion on West Erie Avenue near the Ford plant. Ronald Litten 25 husband driver treated released both cars demolished. Brady in fair condition with broken ribs and legs. The couple leaves two young sons.

City planners show three renewal models for 17 acre Lorain site bounded by Broadway Washington Avenue First Street and Fifth Street. A two story mall centers the plan with 120000 to 320000 square feet of mall space plus 60000 square feet of specialty shops and 400 apartments.
