Terrifying blizzard trapping 29 students and Jesuit priests on Mount Iztaccíhuatl near Mexico City ends with 12 deaths and 17 survivors. Rescuers reach base camp as relatives gather and the mountain’s deadly storm abates.
Viet troops from Laos overran a U S Army Special Forces camp guarding the southwest approach to the Marine fortress at A Sanh. In Hue Marines fought scattered resistance while guerrillas blew a bridge on the Perfume River dividing battle zones.
Lorain hosts a four day auto show at Midway Mall Promenade from 10 am to 10 pm featuring 50 models and engines in cutaway exhibits. About 25 of the county's 38 dealers participate with no admission fee.
President Johnson announces immediate rebuilding of the Silver Bridge linking Gallipolis Ohio and Point Pleasant West Virginia. Franklin D. Taylor, 49, of Elyria, filed as a Democrat for US Representative in the 13th District. He previously sought Elyria city offices, runs Taylor Enterprises, and joins Adrian Bedeski as Democrats seeking the nomination after redistricting moved counties into the 13th.
