Minnesota cold frames Super Bowl 52 in Minneapolis
The Eagles and Patriots played inside U S Bank Stadium as Minneapolis s temperatures plunged to minus 2 with a wind chill of 23 below. The bitter weather raised questions about future northern hosts while praising the new venue s appeal and the political financing behind the event. A local observer noted Minnesota fared well despite the chill and that the game highlighted how stadiums and amenities influence host selections. The NFL has used the event to reward cities that fund new venues, with Minnesota approved in 2014 after a financing package shifted nearly half the 1.1 billion stadium cost to taxpayers. Other northern sites like MetLife Indianapolis Ford Field and Detroit have hosted in recent years.
