Black River teachers seek federal mediator over pay dispute
BRTA voted overwhelmingly to request mediation with the Black River Board of Education after months of stalled talks. The dispute centers on a written salary schedule and fringe benefits while teachers hold individual contracts. State funding cuts strain finances, with district revenue affected and a potential £400,000 loss anticipated this year. A mediator is hoped to arrive within two weeks to resolve funding and contract terms.
