Driver injured in Pike Turnpike crash
A 23 year old man from Swanton Maryland Roy Beckman sustained injuries when he fell asleep at the wheel on the Ohio Turnpike and struck a semi trailer. Beckman is in satisfactory condition at Norwalk Fisher Titus Hospital. The semi driver Aaron Scott of Dallas Texas was uninjured. Beckman faces a reckless operation citation.

Gov John J Gilligan commuted the 10 to 25 year terms of Joseph M Saleem and Delbert Thornton for armed robbery. Saleem's sentence was reduced to unarmed robbery with 1 to 15 years possible. The Ninth District Court of Appeals affirmed the burglary and robbery convictions of Willie Joe King of Lorain John Wallslice Amherst and Raymond D Howard of 419 16th Street. King challenged his jail conditions as cruel and unusual punishment but the court rejected the claim. The offenses occurred in 1971 1972 at Servisteel Warehouse Amherst Eagles Club and Lawson Store.
