Six Hurt In Cleveland Rd Head-On Crash And DUI Charge
A head-on crash on Cleveland Road just east of Elyria injured six people at 2 15 am. Samuel M Hubbard 49 of 114 Rush Street faces a driving while intoxicated charge after his westbound car crossed the center line and struck Charles Smerk 29 of Cleveland in the eastbound car. Hubbard Smerk and four passengers were hurt with Hubbard sustaining a lacerated tongue possible fractured ribs and a facial cut. Smerk had chest injuries and shock. Three Gerlaks and a 33 year old wife were treated for facial and arm injuries and a 10 year old boy for a forehead wound. All were taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital released except the drivers who remained for observation in fair condition. A separate Route 20 crash damaged a car driven by Charles Bottomley of North Ridgeville when it struck a Greyhound bus that had stopped for passengers.
