The Mound Builders Requires Patience on Stage
New York AP review notes Sanford Wilson's The Mound Builders is a slow moving drama about an Illinois mound excavation. A professor, assistant, wives, a landowning son, and a novelist sister navigate domestic turmoil amid philosophical questions about time and the past versus future. The Circle Repertory Company opens the play in repertory with Caligula and Quiet in the Land, using rotating casts led by Tanya Berezin. Jay Patterson and Ken Marshall play the archaeologist pair, delivering strong performances and underscoring the obsessive drive of treasure seekers.
