State highway department expected to let a contract for a La Porte Black river bridge in Lorain county on February 24. The $49 000 project includes a 31 foot roadway with five foot sidewalks on each side. County Surveyor C T Biggs cites Columbus information.
Washington February 2 Bishop James Cannon Jr of the Methodist Episcopal Church South faces an internal church inquiry. Bishop William N Ainsworth of Birmingham heads the investigating panel from the Methodist College of Bishops. The probe begins tomorrow at Mount Vernon Place Church with 12 clergy jurors assessing accusations tied to Cannon's personal conduct.
A fierce winter storm raged across Ireland northern England and Scotland with 60 mile per hour winds. Ships faced high seas. three people were killed in northern England. Snow drifts four to six feet disrupted transport. Glasgow to Cupar passengers stranded. Antrim coast road blocked by landslides. earthfalls on the Isle of Man disrupted rail service and required omnibus conveyance. The wild weather caused widespread highway and rail delays over the weekend.
Joe Westerby of Lorain was fined 100 dollars by Justice J. George after arraignment on a driving while intoxicated charge. He was arrested Saturday night.

In Lorain Ohio on February 2 a safe robber was killed by Police Lieutenant Murphy after a shootout that wounded Patrolman Henry Feldkamp who was shot in the arm. Feldkamp grappled with the robber in the drug store, then the gunman fled into a hallway and beyond as officers tracked them to an abandoned creamery where Murphy fatally shot the accomplice as the partner fled.
In Nassau Bahamas on February 2 the Munson liner Munargo ran aground while entering the harbor at full tide. Officials said refloating chances are slight until high tide tonight. The ship is believed stuck on a sand bank but undamaged. passengers were landed without delay.
In Cuyahoga Falls Ohio on February 2 Frank Ridenour 32 died from burns after attempting to rescue Rita 3 and Frank Jr 10 months from a house fire that destroyed their Bailey court home. His wife Nellie 35 and two other children survived with serious injuries.
Lorain resident Alex Lasky is to be tried before Justice S J George this afternoon on charges of possession of liquor. State Agents George Baynham and A P Davis raided Saturday afternoon finding a crate of soft drink bottles with a false bottom concealing three bottles of alleged booze as evidence.
Dog Warden Lee Minkler warned owners that prosecutions will follow if dogs run loose at night or violate the law. He said owners must tie dogs and call him. Minkler reported he picked up 148 dogs last month and killed all but six.
Columbia Center residents urged county officials to halt a planned 19 by 9.5 foot magazine with a cement base intended to store explosives within 1800 feet of homes. They cited a lease naming explosives storage and recalled a prior nitroglycerin blast. Greenhouse owners joined in the protest linked to DuPont interests. Prosecutor Myers pledged to review applicable laws.
Roy Morrow, a veteran motorman, had his house entered while he was away. Someone used a hidden house key from the maid box to steal his uniform and eight dollars. Morrow suspects a friend staged the prank, prompting a police call and a search for replacement trousers.

The president will appoint many committees during the week and announce them next Saturday. David Hyman appealed for Red Cross Drought fund contributions.
A driver collision on Route 58 near Huntington Center killed a six weeks old infant and critically injured Joseph Pusateri, owner of a Broad street fruit market, his wife, and a seven year old son Richard. Charles Barton of Spencer drove the other car. the baby’s body goes to Wellington as deputies report the Pusateri car was hit on the side and overturned.
Elyria city workers join weekly food drive to aid needy families. Donations will be collected each Thursday, announced Mayor James A. Hewitt.
Louis Balas of 315 West River Street was fined $300 and costs by Mayor James A. Hewitt after arraignment on possession of liquor charges. Balas was arrested by State Prohibition Agent George Baynham and Elyria police during a raid Saturday night.

Columbus Feb 2. Director Theodore H. Tangeman announced the appointment of Frank McGuire of Columbus as superintendent of the State Building and Loan Department. The move was disclosed by the Director of Commerce.
A large unidentified ship was reported in flames four miles off Trinidad Peak. The Coast Guard ship Cahokia departed Eureka to assist after the lighthouse keeper at Trinidad Head, 25 miles away, telephoned in the distress.

The officer-holders are W G Caskey president H L Leimbach vice president R E Campbell secretary and C F Hales treasurer. The first executive meeting will be in March.
Washington February 2 two boys Layne Leoffler aged 9 and Gus Law aged 11 were trapped for more than three hours in a bog near Bolling Field while their three companions slipped in. They sank beyond their shoulders before rescue efforts succeeded.
A blaze at J. J. Cullin residence 843 West Broad Street was caused by an overturned electric coil heater on the attic floor. Elyria firefighters battled the flames for about an hour, with damage estimated at 1000 to 1200 dollars. The heater burned through the floor and spread to joist channels and roof, attic furnishings burned, while second floor items were saved.
Pictures of Major General Smedley Butler shown in a news reel at a local theatre last night were applauded vigorously by the audience. Secretary of State Stimson and Premier Mussolini received signs of disapproval when their photographs appeared.

John Rehoreg, 45, died at St Joseph Hospital from a fractured skull believed caused by two blows with a heavy instrument. Special offices for the appraisal of Lorain county real estate were opened in the Turner Block this morning by County Auditor Monroe H. Welty. A corps of girls were put to work making out 80,000 cards to be used by appraisers to be appointed later. Auditor Welty concurs with Auditor-elect Charles Kelser in the appointment of appraisers and in the general appraisal work.
Attorney General Bettman announced the appointment of Isadore Topper a Toledo attorney as special counsel in the department succeeding Harry G. Levy who resigned to practice law. Topper a Toledo University and Ohio State College of Law graduate will handle legal work for the State Board of Real Estate Examiners Pharmacy Board Agriculture Department Welfare Department and Civil Service Commission.
