Sheriff Reaffirms 18 Cents a Meal Contract Renewal
Sheriff Carl R Finegan maintained the 18 cents a meal rate in a county board session on renewing the jail feeding contract. Commissioners debated lowering costs to 16 or 15 cents, but the sheriff insisted on the existing rate, noting that shifting to county cooks and outside laundry would raise overall expenses. The board eventually favored renewing at 18 cents, with possible offsets like reassigning jail housing to county engineering, while jail matron Ella Armstrong and Deputy Davidson’s pay remained unsettled.
